TiVo TCD652160 HD Digital Video Recorder

I was not aware of all of the associated costs to fully use this product. So I cannot evaluate it fairly. I made a mistake in ordering it. I simply wanted to record HD TV shows, Nothing more.

I am 63. When I was in college I was introduced to digital computing and analog computing. I was taught Fortran as a programing language. That was forty years ago! My home phone service is Vonage. It works much better and I can hear voices more clearly than Verizon. I have used a VCR for twenty years or more.
Getting started with TiVo Has been a struggle. Because of Vonage, I have no phone line to plug into TiVo. I must run a wire from my router to the back of the TiVo. Until I can discover the password to the home wireless network. The network was set up four years ago by a technician from Best Buy. He is somewhere else. He did not tell me that the network was encoded. Everything that I have added to the network works. Not TiVo. TiVo wants me to figure out a password.
The wire works just fine. I went to a wedding in Greensboro, NC this past weekend. I spoke to a computer savvy librarian there who has TiVo for a year. She has a fifty foot cable snaking downstairs from her router to the back of her TiVo. She, too, has Vonage. She would sooner give up TiVo than Vonage. She, too, has a Buffalo Technologies Air Station Router, the same model as mine. There are two of us with working TiVos that are less than acceptable because of third party problems.
By the way, I have every other password that I have ever used on a file. Not the Buffalo Technologies password, however.
Buyer beware.

Whats free about an item that requires a subscription service. Subscription service is more expensive than cable offering HD recorder.IF I new it would not work at all without the subscription service I would not have had it. very misleading advertizing.
Its still in the original looking for a good home

Today we are returning the Tivo HD we bought at Christmas. After 2 weeks of constant calls with TIVO tech support they gave up trying to get our unit to work properly and offered to send another one. NO THANKS – TOO MUCH TIME WASTED ALREADY. Going back to the Comcast DVR. At least it worked.
