  1. Caveat: My Moxi box was provided to me by Charter Communications. Might not be the exact model here… but judging from the other bad reviews it is.

    The review:

Let’s put it this way: if everything I owned was this horrible to use, I’d be swinging from my neck right now in my garage. It’s that bad. Really.

First, let’s talk about the general user experience. And by that I mean you’ll generally be sitting there waiting for the Moxi to do something. Hit a button, wait for it to response. Maybe I’ll just read a book.

Next, the program guide. Pretty just every other program guide in the world is a big grid. The X-axis is time, the Y-axis is channel. Why does every other program guide work that way? BECAUSE IT WORKS. Really, it works great. To the contrary, the Moxi program guide is apparently designed solely to make me angry and drive me to drink. As you peruse the channels, you’re only the next few shows for that single channel. If you’re ok with this, you’re an idiot.

That’s all I can muster…. keep looking for a better box.

  2. 1. Recording pixcelate and the sound is poor.

    2. Remote reponse time is poor 3-5 seconds.

    3. Unit locks up often when in use requiring resetting.

    4. Resetting takes 15-30 minutes.

    5. Unit locks up when not in use.

We got ours from Charter. Told them to take it back and give us another model which works fine. The technician said it was a good unit. A lie. He said it required IP address to work but what we saw was a poorly designed product.

  3. I almost bought this product, but found it’s NOT superior to a TiVo. I might pay a lot less for it for a secondary TV.

    What it’s missing:

    1. There is no ability to pull off shows to a PC – for archival or conversion to an iPod format. Suppose I want to watch a financial show tomorrow at work? Can’t do it with this product.

    2. I can’t transfer shows between boxes. With my multiple Tivos I can transfer shows from the living room to the bedroom.

    A TiVo killer, it’s NOT!

  4. Please do not waste your money. Our cable provider provides these, brand new right out of the box. Our installer went through TWO, both of which were bad. He got a third one working, but within just days the thing began to reset itself constantly, sometimes three or four times within an hour. And I won’t even go into the noise the hard drive makes with the constant whirring. The functions are nice, but there are waaay too many of them. Within the week I called the company and requested anything BUT a Moxi. If I could give it a negative five stars, I would. I hope this helps some poor unsuspecting soul ready to shell out $800. You couldn’t GIVE me another one.

  5. We have Charter and are leasing the moxi hd dvr through them. Since we signed up for our first box, 1 year ago, we have had nothing but problems. We are now on our 5th box, which after 10 short days aftering being installed, stopped working. I have an appointment in the morning and requested any other hd dvr box charter has to offer that is NOT a moxi. I cannot express how incredibly frustrating it has been in the last year having box, after box, after box decide to 1) constantly reset itself. 2) freeze mid-picture. 3) operate on limited services meaning no hd, and no menu of any kind. 4) simply turn intself off and since there is no “on” button on the moxi – it stays on all the time you can’t actually turn it back on – you have to unplug it and plug it back in which from our experience does a whole lot of nothing. and the list of problems goes on. Not to mention the thing is incredibly loud. Since it stays on 24/7 so does it’s fan – if you plan on having one in your bedroom, don’t. Every single time a tech comes out to replace our box, the first box he installs(and yes, sometimes the second) doesn’t work either and he has to go back down to his van and get another. Not to mention every time it gets replaced we lose whatever movies and shows we had recorded. If they show up tomorrow with another moxi I might just throw it out the window of our 5 story building. Please save yourself the trouble and do not waste your hard earned money on this…ever. I’m also quite bitter at Charter for using this product and charging me for service that I only get every now and then (when the box decides to work). It doesn’t deserve the 1 star rating it got.
